It is near Christmas but some people in the Mindanao area has just been hit by an unforeseen calamity. December 16, Typhoon Sendong falls on land, devastating southern Visayas and northern Mindanao. Specifically, the areas hit are Palawan, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Siquijor, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Samal Island, Maguindanao, Davao del Sur, Zamboanga Province, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Agusan Provinces, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Comspotella Valley and Camiguin.
Until today, the wrath of Sendong is still at work. Several flash floods and landslides occurred in the Mindanao area and turned coastal cities into piles of rubbles and mud, particularly in Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro. It was a terrifying nightmare for many people as the typhoon took hundreds of lives. Accordingly, at least 521 people are reported dead while still more could possibly be missing.
Facebook has been a great medium to tell the world of this fateful tragedy. Here are the photos I found from the World Disaster’s FILE.
Here is a call for a missing friend (See original post).
Some foundations have already extended initiative to help the victims of the typhoon. For relief goods and assistance, you may contact the nearest LBC (see LBC Foundation page) line.
It is the season of giving and may we find it in our hearts to help our needy Kababayans. Even if we could not extend our financial or material support, let us light our candles and pray for their recovery and safety from any more harm.
